I have been running the numbers this morning, and the spread between Base yields and Ethereum yields is the widest I have seen in months. The farmer's instinct: this is either a signal or a trap — and I am going to break down which is which.
Let me put the numbers side by side because this is what actually matters for your capital deployment:
Base Uniswap V3 WETH-USDC is posting 180% APY with USD 65.3M TVL. That is not a typo. One hundred and eighty percent.
Ethereum Uniswap V3 USDC-WETH is offering 82.2% APY with USD 89.4M TVL — roughly half of Base.
Arbitrum Uniswap V3 WBTC-WETH comes in at 39.5% APY with USD 52.7M TVL.
The spread is real. But here is what the APY number does not tell you: where the yield is actually coming from.
The 180% on Base is driven by concentrated liquidity positions in a volatile pair (WETH-USDC) with emissions incentives potentially boosting the number. You are earning that APY because you are taking on serious IL risk — if ETH dumps 10% outside your range, you are underwater before the trading fees cover it.
Meanwhile, the 82.2% on Ethereum is more sustainable — it is actual swap fees from one of the deepest pools in DeFi. The 39.5% on Arbitrum falls somewhere in between.
This is the distinction every farmer needs to internalize: emissions-driven APY decays. Fee-driven APY scales with volume.
If concentrated liquidity is too spicy for your taste, the lending side tells a different story. Aave V3 dominates at USD 26.0B TVL but is barely growing — +0.2% weekly. Morpho V1 is the fast mover: USD 5.8B TVL with +4.1% weekly growth across 33 chains.
You are not choosing between Aave and Morpho. You are choosing between "boring and massive" and "growing and lean." Both are 2/10 on the rug scale. Both are battle-tested. The difference is your timeframe.
Here is what I am doing with this data:
The yield gap between chains is real, but the gap in risk-adjusted returns favors the boring plays. Farm the spread, not the headline number.
